A multi-sensory play experience
The Gymini® Total Playground™ offers a truly multi-sensory play experience, with a variety of sounds and images on the blanket and hanging toys, along with varied sensory stimulation provided by the different fabrics, textures and shapes. Baby gazes at the toys, strokes and explores them with his hands and mouth, developing coordination between the senses.
Gross Motor Development
When in the prone position, the Gymini® Total Playground™ encourages baby to lift her neck and shoulders while gazing at her reflection in the extra-large mirror or the illustrations on the border – strengthening her neck and shoulder girdle. When baby extends her hand and strikes the toys, or her feet to kick the response pad, she strengthens her arm and leg muscles. From the sixth month, baby is drawn to the Kick & Play™ response pad which she strikes to elicit flashing lights or music. This helps baby's ability to support her weight with one hand.
Fine Motor Development
The hanging toys invite baby to reach out and strike or grasp, first by chance and later quite intentionally as control over her arm and hand improves. This helps develop hand-eye coordination. The interesting and diverse structure of the toys help her practice different grasping methods, as well as opening and closing her hand, pulling, and later, coordination between the two hands.
The Gymini® Total Playground™ offers a multitude of opportunities to experience cause and effect, such as batting at the hanging toys to make them swing, or kicking or striking the Kick & Play™ response pad and causing the lights to flash or the music to play.
From the fifth month, baby becomes intrigued with the concept of object permanence. She lifts the kite to reveal the bee or the sun on the border to reveal a bird, enjoying a fun peek-a-boo-type game.
Baby's ability to calm herself, during the first months of life, depends on external factors. The Gymini® Total Playground's special structure, with the crossed arches, reminds baby of the closed, protective, round environment of the womb, and this has a calming effect. In addition, the relaxing classical music selections offered by the Kick & Playâ„¢ response pad fill this warm space with calming, auditory delights. And the mirror helps baby conceive of body image, the foundation of self-image.
Language and Communication
The classical music selections contribute to baby's language development. Both are made up of a sequence of sounds that together compose "musical sentences." Both verbal and musical sentences are received by the brain as a sequence of sounds, and baby learns to process and organize these sequences into a meaningful form. The Gymini® Total Playground™ offers high-quality classical music pieces, that when listened to repeatedly stimulate the part of the brain responsible for speech. In addition, when baby looks in the mirror, she laughs as she sees the baby in the reflection laugh back. She "talks" to her reflection, initiating an enjoyable "dialogue." This helps develop her language and communication skills.
The "arches effect" helps relax baby, providing the security of a relatively enclosed space. This, together with the classical music, make the Gymini® Total Playground™ a special, relaxing space for baby, that provides a feeling of confidence, while stimulating the senses with the music, ringing chime and larger colorful toys hanging over her head.
The Gymini® Total Playground™ offers multi-sensory stimulation. It stimulates sight with colorful toys, clear illustrations and blinking lights. It stimulates hearing with classical music, and a variety of other sounds. And it stimulates touch with a wide range of textures and materials. The Gymini® Total Playground™ helps to strengthen baby's gross motor muscles. When baby is lying on her tummy, the large mirror and illustrations on the borders and blanket encourage her to lift her head and neck. The Kick & Play™ response pad encourages her to kick and strengthen her legs. When lying on her back, the hanging toys invite baby to reach out to touch, strike and move them, as well as practice her grasping capabilities. This helps develop fine motor skills and perfect hand-eye coordination. The Gymini® Total Playground™ offers a multitude of opportunities to experience cause and effect, such as striking at the hanging toy and making it swing, or striking the respond panel and causing the lights to flash or the music to play. The Gymini® Total Playground™ contributes to EQ in two ways: quality classical music and borders that help baby to relax, and the mirror that allows her to explore her reflection and learn about facial features - the foundation of developing body image. In addition, looking in the mirror encourages baby to make sounds, and listening to classical music contributes to her developing language and communication skills.
The Gymini® Total Playground™ contributes to the development of all seven developmental elements. Baby can now enjoy all the musical features, and can gaze at the visual stimulation – near and far, large and small. Baby develops her sense of touch as she explores the toys with her hands and mouth, or plays with the stimulating items on the blanket. She strengthens the muscles in her legs and hands as she kicks or strikes the Kick & Play™ response pad to elicit audiovisual feedback. She also practices shifting her weight from side-to-side, as she strikes something with one hand while leaning on the other. Baby grasps the hanging toys to play with, pulling on them and putting them in her mouth to explore, developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. The Gymini® Total Playground™ offers a variety of activities that help teach baby about cause and effect, with activities that elicit sound, audio feedback or revealing visual stimulation. The Gymini® Total Playground™ also contributes to baby's language and communication development with high-quality classical music, and with the large mirror that encourages her to babble at her reflection. Gazing at her reflection in the mirror also contributes to baby's developing body image, and the music relaxes her to contribute to her emotional intelligence.
With the arches removed, baby can now enjoy lying or sitting on the activity blanket, and can touch and explore the toys as her senses continue to be stimulated. Baby learns about causal relationships, while perfecting motor skills playing peek-a-boo-type games, as well as beginning to understand object permanence.
